Baby Bear has diabetes.

...it's so rare in ferrets, that he's only the third that his vet has ever seen (and she is by no means a spring chicken).

So much for a good start to the year. :-/ What's the prognosis for him? Is it treatable?

It's manageable, sort of - just like diabetes would be in a cat or a dog or
a human. It's just that so little is known abut the disease in ferrets that everything is just blind instinct on top of a wild guess. He'll be on insulin for he rest of his life, however long or short that may be.

We had a cat that was diabetic, emphasis on "was." they vet told is that once they make it to 90 days they are usually fine. Tiger died on his 91 day.

It's hard to think that I'm going to go through all of this again with Baby. :(
