Oh, Furuba.

So, I've never really given up on manga. Or anime (as I just bought the entire KKM box set the other day). Yesterday, when I was shopping for J.'s birthday, I happened to wander into Waldenbooks (after being horribly disappointed by Borders), and picked up the newest Fruits Basket. And I just...remembered everything that I love about all manga every time I read and re-read the series. (It's like an addiction, I get the newest book, I re-read the whole series. Backwards. 18, 17, 16, 15...Rinse, repeat, ad nauseum.)

How is it that this series still gets me to cry? I don't really care much about Rin and her woes, which unfortunately was over half of this volume, but the Yuuki/Machi thing is way beyond cute and the Tohru/Kyou thing is just heartbreaking. I never thought I would like Yuuki ever, but he's finally growing up. I rather like the whole student council thing and all of it's members, Yuuki needed exactly that kind of crazy in his life. I like the way Kyou is maturing, but really, he's just resigning to his fate. And I love the fact that Tohru absolutely will not have it. "Haru desu! Haru no mae ni! Kyou-kun ga...!" Is how I imagine it was written in the original Japanese, except, you know, more polite as this is Tohru we're talking about here.

There are currently 18 volumes out with the 19th due in March. I've pretty much been with this series ever first it since started so many years ago. I'm not as crazy about this stuff as I used to be, thank God, and never as crazy as some people are. (That whole running up to random people at cons and hugging them thing? I will put you on the floor, bitch. Argh. No touchie!)

I didn't pick up any new series this time they way I usually do when I peruse for new Furuba. Last time I did I picked up Peacemaker Kurogane, Black Sun()Silver Moon (hysterical, seriously, more people need to be interested dammit), Mu Shi Shi, Pick of the Litter (weird...funny, but weird), Once upon a Glashma (interesting one shot), Never Give Up (Oh Shojo, you never fail to bring the crack), Houshin Engi (I have the anime, may as well get the manga).

Good God. No wonder I'm broke all the time. Between the ferts and this, I mean.

Sadly, I don't think I've picked up any new series' in the last year or two. (Maybe with how I'm perpetually broke though, this is a good thing. ^_^; ) The only thing I've gotten into is the translated Vampire Hunter D novels. D's shiny... T.T

Sometimes it's just so hard to get excited about the new manga, mostly because it seems like I've seen it all before. And other times..."OOOH~! SHINY!" usually comes out of my mouth. \o/ And then I splurge without thinking about consequences. D: But yeah, there was a long dry spell where the only things I were picking up were d.Gray-man and Furuba.
