There are some things that should never ever happen in to me, and yet somehow still do. Like Dr. Geisert referencing the "Girls Gone Wild" series while talking about the lecture "Well-behaved Women Seldom Make History." I weep, guys. I weep.

I thought about going to the lecture, but I'm now glad I didn't. I'm not familiar with the Girls Gone Wild series, but my understanding is that it involves a lot of binge drinking and sex-without-strings. I don't think that embarassing oneself in public is a form of intellectual expression.

When I think of badly behaved women, I think of suffragettes, women who live in seqouia trees to prevent forest destruction, and prohibitionists who break into liqour stores and smash all the whiskey bottles. I think about women who kill their abusive husbands to protect their kids and themselves. I think about that woman in Chicago who survived attempted forced sodomy by biting off her attacker's testicles and dropping them on the desk at the local police station. I think about the secretary at my ex-stepfather's divorce lawyer's office, who, after hearing the lawyer argue that my mom was being unfair about the child custody arrangements, screamed, "Sign the damn papers already!" My ex-stepfather, shocked into silence, did just that.

I've never taken a class with Professor Geisert, but it sounds like a really uncomfortable moment.

It wasn't in the lecture itself (I don't think/I sincerely hope not), so Dr. Geisert was just using the series to say that even women who misbehave don't always get into the history books: i.e. like the girls in the "Girls Gone Wild." Of course my reaction boils down to: :O O.o >.< . Just...aaaaaggghhh.

Heh. The secretary sounds like a cool person.
