Collateral
Aug. 19th, 2004 07:31 pmSo, I saw Collateral today. It was pretty good. While watching it, I was having a hard time remembering that I'm not really supposed to be rooting for Tom Cruise's character, as well, he *is* killing (fairly) innocent men. Oh well, I have a weakness for bad guys anyway, so I probably would have rooted for him no matter what.
Surprisingly, I was also rather fond of Jamie Foxx's character, Max. (This is surprising as I don't really like Jamie Foxx.) I guess it's because he's a dreamer like I am, but unwilling to go out and make his dreams come true. I also like the fact that he crashed his car. *snicker*
I'm also probably the only one who saw the slash potential between Vincent and Max. Cuz, like, omgwtf, right? Vincent is one mean mother fucker, and has probably never really loved anyone in his life. Max, on the other hand, seems like a really nice dude, that just didn't have the balls to change anything about his life. But I could see little flickers of Vincent wanting Max. Not, perhaps, because he actually *liked* Max "in that way," but because Max had something that Vincent didn't know, didn't understand for himself.
Max was clean. He was pure in a way that Vincent probably never was, even as a child. In fact, Vincent told Max that he killed his father when he was 12, just to get rid of him. I think that's part of the reason why he's attracted to him. If he was really into his job, after Max started to become a liability and not a help (aka, the very beginning of the movie), he would have killed Max, just ot get rid of the witness. But he doesn't. In fact, he goes so far as to *protect* Max from other people, or he thinks that he is protecting Max. And then grouses about not getting thanked for it later while Max is driving in the front looking back at him like he's absolutely crazy. Which I think he is.
Max, on the other hand, wanted Vincent's confidence just to go out and *do* things, take over his life and *make* things happen. You know, it's like that song "Drive" or whatever the hell it was by whomever the hell it was. With "Should I choose water over wine/and take the wheel and drive" in it. Which is pretty ironic as Max is a cab driver. But yes, Max is boneing for Vincent because of his confidence. That and Vincent is hot. But, hey, he *is* Tom Cruise after all. *snicker*
But, yes. Good movie. Very good acting. It was nice to see a well done serious role by Jamie Foxx, and Tom Cruise for once not playing Tom Cruise in his films, and actually be a villian. *nods* You must see this film!
