My favorite line and the one I most believe in would have to be: This, to me, is the America worth fighting for. These are the laws I support. Don't believe in abortion? Don't understand gay people? Sexuality makes you rashy? Think Harry Potter teaches kids evil and witchcraft? Don't marry a sexy gay witch abortionist. But don't you dare, based on your limited understanding of God and life, make laws declaring that I can't.
I think it mostly comes down to the fact that I believe in people have the right to choose. I can't say for sure that I've always had this belief, but it's the one that I now believe in most. No matter what else, everyone has the right to choose a belief and live by it. So that means a person has the choice to be an intolerant asshole if they want. I'll uphold that. Who was it that said, "I don't agree with what you said, but I'll fight to the death to defend your right to say it."? I think it was Voltaire, but I could be wrong...Anyway, that's not the point. The point is, as an American, and a person who truly believes in freedom, no matter how naive that sounds, I will always defend the right that people have to choose to be a certain way. That doesn't, however, mean that a person has the right to impede upon another person's choice in anyway whatsoever just because they are an intolerant asshole.
Sexuality should not be legislated. Religion should not be legislated. And religion should never be used to legislate sexuality and the limits of sexuality. When the governemnt starts to do that, people's choices become drastically limited, which goes against the very core of my belief that everyone has the right to choose their own paths in life.
(Side note: I know it sounds like that I'm saying sexuality is something that people choose and aren't born with. I don't have the time right now, I have to go get the boy a b-day present, and I need to research it a bit more. I'll clarify and strengthen my position later. Probably tomorrow. When I'm not drunk.)
